Streets of Joondalup set to ignite for the Joondalup Sprint

Joondalup Festival of Motoring organisers have announced which usually sedate suburban roads will form a 2.4km motorsport track open to high octane traffic only on Sunday, 30 October, for the inaugural Joondalup Sprint.

The entry list features 150 vehicles that aim to claim the best time around the course. But, there will be no traffic jam in sight, with the Sprint event seeing cars leaving the start line individually rather than performing a grid start that is common in Race style events.

After setting off from the Start Line on Reid Promenade, the course will circumnavigate Central Park and North Metropolitan TAFE, with flybys of the Joondalup Library, WA Police Academy and Edith Cowan University. Spectators viewing from Joondalup’s Central Park will need to hang onto their hats as the vehicles come past in full flight before completing a “dog leg” chicane and then crossing the finish line on Boas Ave.

Event Director Justin Hunt says that the course layout has been chosen due to its ability to deliver three vital ingredients – safety, technicality and spectator friendliness.

“There is nothing like this event in Perth. Competitors will find this course delivers an enjoyable amount of technicality,” Justin said. “It presents the kind of challenge that will have you comparing strategies with fellow competitors in the Service Zone on how you tackled certain sectors.

“The course also includes fast flowing sectors that will get the engine singing and turning spectator’s heads, this isn’t a car park run.”

The Joondalup Festival of Motoring has been inspired by some of the iconic international motoring festivals, which incorporates the motoring theme into a varied programme of motorsport, art, culinary and entertainment activities.

To enter the Joondalup Sprint, perspective competitors will need a Motorsport Australia Speed level licence or higher. For entry forms, supplementary regulations and general event information, please visit www.jfom.com.au.
