Entries racing in for Joondalup City Sprint
The 2023 Tyrepower Joondalup Festival of Motoring is shifting gears and direction with the motorsport element of the festival, the Joondalup City Sprint receiving tweaks that will see last year’s course layout reversed for this year.
The Joondalup Festival of Motoring takes over the Joondalup CBD from 24 – 26 November, incorporating a motoring theme into a thrilling programme of motorsport, culinary and entertainment activities.
The programme’s highlight is Sunday’s Joondalup City Sprint, which sees the usually sedate Joondalup CBD roads close to form a motorsport track open to high octane traffic only. Over the day, 150 track-ready cars will do four separate runs of the 2.2km course with the aim of crossing the finish line with the fastest time.
Entries to the Joondalup City Sprint recently opened to motorsport participants. Event Director Justin Hunt says that he has been inundated with event registrations.
“We’ve had a fantastic response from last year’s Joondalup City Sprint competitors, plus plenty of enthusiasm from new entrants,” said Justin. “Within two weeks, we are already up to 80 registrations.
“Reversing the course will put both first-timers and our return competitors on an even playing field – but most importantly, it will improve access and flow for spectators.”
City of Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob is also counting down to the Joondalup City Sprint and is keen to see the competitors take to the Joondalup street circuit.
“If you have ever dreamt of racing on a fast-paced street circuit, now is the time to register,” said Mayor Jacob.
“We expect a big contingent of last year’s entrants to return and, no doubt, some novices will be keen to tackle this challenging street circuit for the first time.
“The course has been tweaked to provide even more thrills for drivers and the thousands of spectators expected to cheer them on.
“The 2023 Tyrepower Joondalup Festival of Motoring will only enhance Joondalup’s reputation as the ‘events capital’ of the north.”
The change in direction and minor layout changes will see the start line now situated on Boas Ave with cars flying by WA Police Academy, North Metropolitan TAFE and Central Park before they cross the finish line on Reid Promenade.
Across event weekend, Joondalup’s Central Park, Civic Centre car park and surrounding streets of the CBD will host hundreds of gleaming static display vehicles from some of Perth’s most prominent car collectives, such as Northern Steel, Classic Cars and Coffee, Hyundai N Club, JDM and more.
Entries for the Joondalup City Sprint close on 30 October 2023, unless the entry limit is reached prior. To enter the Joondalup Sprint, prospective competitors require a Motorsport Australia Speed level licence or higher.
